The Association between Youth and Gender: Socio-economic Emphasis

Author

Abstract

This article discusses socio-economic aspects of the association between youth and gender. The discussion is presented in five main sections including literacy and education, health, employment, Information and communication technology, and the situation of youth and gender in the Middle East with specific focus on Iran. The discussion of this article is based on the analysis of the data of Iran’s censuses and the global data provided by the United Nations and the International Labour Organization.  The results of this article show that although the recent decades has witnessed significant success and improvements in terms of the access of both male and female youth to socio-economic opportunities, the gender gaps still exist. Further, the results indicate that youth include about one-fifth of total population both in the world and in Iran. This echoes a wide range of needs and abilities, and requires research-based planning and investments in both national and global levels.
