Abstract
Objectives: Today, the Internet has decisive effects on the aspirations of young people who use it more than other groups and are in this space. Youth migration outside of Iran is an important issue. The current research has investigated the relationship between internet use and the desire to migrate among young people living in Shiraz. Methods: The current research uses a survey method. The random sampling method was a multi-stage cluster, and the sample size was 400 people from 15 to 29 years old in 1402. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire. Results: The findings showed that 80.5% of the respondents had a moderate to high desire to migrate. At the level of bivariate analysis, variables of internet use and its components, contact with friends and others in virtual space, frequency of Internet and satellite usage during the day, follow-up of documentaries related to other countries and immigration programs, years of internet use, type of information source have had a significant relationship with the dependent variable. At the level of multivariate analysis, according to the variables of tracking documentaries related to other countries and..., reading books, newspapers, and magazines, the frequency of Internet and satellite usage during the day, and Internet usage in general, 49.9% of the changes in the variable desire to migrate explain. Conclusion: The departure of young people from the country has multifaceted effects and significant challenges for the government. Since more than 80% of the respondents wished to migrate, studying this phenomenon's relationship with the Internet and virtual space will lead to developing policies to manage migration flows. Considering that we live in the age of the Internet and given that this media is one of the important factors in immigration decisions, the application of Bandura's learning theory and the sociological framework of De Haas can help us to understand this phenomenon more.
