Iran's historical market (Bazaars) evidently represent Iranian indigenous culture and the social capital of these Bazaars can be explored in cultural, religious, social, economic, historical, semantic, and spatial dimensions. Historical Bazaars hold quality environmental spaces, exchange traditions and events, which have provided rich and dynamic social capital over time. This is, however, undermined by the construction of contemporary passages and shopping malls with non-indigenous styles. This paper aims to explain the dimensions and qualities of social capital in historical Bazaars. It presents a case study of historical Bazaar in Tabriz on the basis of an analytical-documentary research method and field survey. Historic Bazaars carry a substantial collection of social capital over time. This lies in the fact that the historical Bazaars are essentially built on indigenous traditions in such spaces as Rasteh, Timcheh, Serra, Dalan (corridors) and mosques. According to the results of this analysis, social capital in Tabriz Bazaar relies on economic basis, spatial system and Iranian-Islamic culture including celebrations, mourning, religious beliefs, helping the needy, strong neighborly relations.
